I found these adorable shoes at a thrift store recently. I have been drawn to heels lately. I’ve spent most of my life in flats, maybe because it allowed me to ‘speed’ through life a little easier. Recently I have found myself feeling really comfortable in heels, standing a little taller, walking more intentionally, maybe even with a little swagger to my step! Each step is more mindful and joyful in my beautiful statements that now carry me throughout my day.
I have enjoyed my shoes of the past - flat, well worn, perfect fit, carrying me to my kids' sport events, date nights with my husband, half marathons through trails and cities, and up on stages in front of a crowd.
Some of these shoes are all worn out, put to rest, never to be worn again. Others are just ready to be replaced for that next race, or date night on the town. Either way, there is now more space to bring in something new, exciting and unknown.
This is a new chapter for me. Kids are grown, more date nights have become a regular. Running on the beaches and through the dunes are now my dream turned reality. More professional gatherings, speaking and presenting on stages about mindfulness, intenSati and living intentionally. What’s really different besides the shoes on my feet? My attitude to embrace the unknown, trying on something new, and experiencing life to the fullest. And of course with pretty shoes on my feet - how fun is that!
What chapter are you in? What next step are you getting ready to take? Maybe you’re getting ready for a big move out of state to that dream job you’ve been longing for. Or maybe you find yourself in the big house where you raised your kids - now with empty rooms, as those young ones are now off to create their own adventures. How will you take your next steps? With your feet firmly planted on the ground, heart full of confidence (and yes maybe a bit of apprehension), and that sparkle in your eye knowing that no matter what - you’ve got this! With one foot in front of the other, Is it in your comfortably worn favorite flats, those heels ready to sparkle for a night on the town, big chunky boots with traction so you don’t lose your grip?
It’s ok to have those moments of uncertainty, no idea what comes next. Remember, you are right where you need to be. Whether it's hiking the dunes with the sun shining on your cheeks, hand in hand with your partner and heart filled with gratitude. Maybe sometimes you even find yourself curled up on the couch, tears pouring out of your eyes with no idea what comes next. Remember you are ok, you are right where you need to be. Take that deep breath, cry a few more tears, and when you’re ready, tap into that light within of courage, confidence and gratitude, slip on those sparkly shoes and take your next best step!
