I’ve often said “always leave a place better than you found it”. My twins recently moved to a new apartment and I got my Monica on by cleaning top to bottom! (if you’re a Friends fan, you got the reference!) it was sparkly clean - from the tops of the kitchen cabinets (yes, I really clean the tops of the cabinets), to the backs of the toilet seat - all is now shiny and new.
As they were packing up to leave their previous place, which is where the cleaning began, I said it again “always leave a place better than you found it”. That was honestly a bit tougher in the first place as it was spotless when they moved in - and spotless when they moved out, which led to an even smoother check out with cleaning deposit returned in hand with no question. It feels good to do good. Or what comes around goes around.
We can use all the sayings we want, the bottom line is leave something better than you found it. Let’s take that a bit deeper. My coach Bob Proctor taught me about the impression of increase. This statement sums it up pretty well: “To give the impression of increase means to make others feel that life is expanding when they are with you. You become a source of growth, possibility, and elevation.”
This is my mission in life - to lift the energy wherever I go. Not a bad idea, huh? I know this hasn’t come easy in some situations. It takes a lot of courage and self discipline to opt out of a conflicting conversation.
But what if it were easy to leave an impression of increase? To leave a room a little bit brighter because you were there, we could use a little bit more light, right?
Here are a few easy and fun ways to leave an impression of increase, that doesn’t take a lot of courage or self discipline, although very good character traits to have!
- Smile - really its that simple. Smile at a stranger, a friend a random passer by. See the energy shift in an instant.
- Pay someone a compliment -”it’s really great to see you”, or “how are you” ***and actually mean it and actually listen for a response.
- Open a door for a stranger. Yep, that simple.
- Tip 50% of your bill the next time you eat out. Go ahead, I dare you!🤩
- The next time you hug a loved one, linger just a few seconds longer.
